This in-person reading workshop offers a space for literary exploration, analysis, and conversation in English through a curated selection of contemporary American short stories.
Held at our Centro location (Maipú 672, CABA).
No prior knowledge is required, but an intermediate to advanced level of English is recommended to fully enjoy the discussions and readings.

Theme: “Family, Community, and Belonging”

November invites us to reflect on the bonds that hold us together-and the tensions that pull us apart. This month’s book club will explore stories of families and communities, where love and loyalty meet conflict, regret and change. Around the season of Thanksgiving, these narratives invite us to consider what it means to belong, to forgive and to carry the weight of memory.

Through these tales, we’ll look at how characters struggle with family ties, how the past shapes the present, and how community can be both shelter and burden. Each story opens a window into the complexities of human connection, reminding us that home is not only a place but also a relationship.

Stories we’ll read together:

  • "Goodbye, My Brother", John Cheever
  • "The Girl Who Left Her Sock on the Floor", Deborah Eisenberg
  • "Babylon Revisited", F. Scott Fitzgerald
  • "Covered Bridges", Barbara Kingsolver

Possible Discussion Themes:

  • Family ties: love, conflict, and reconciliation
  • Memory, regret, and second chances
  • Belonging to a community—comfort or confinement?
  • How traditions shape identity
  • Generational perspectives on family and change

Language & Learning Focus:

  • Talking about family, relationships, and traditions
  • Expressing agreement, disagreement, and personal reflections
  • Exploring tone, symbolism, and narrative voice
  • Comparing cultural views on family gatherings and community
  • Building vocabulary around memory, conflict, and reconciliation

All course materials will be shared online before the course begins, so you’ll have everything you need to get started.
