Book Club: American Short Stories

This in-person reading workshop offers a space for literary exploration, analysis, and conversation in English through a curated selection of contemporary American short stories.

Held at our Centro location (Maipú 672, CABA).
No prior knowledge is required, but an intermediate to advanced level of English is recommended to fully enjoy the discussions and readings.

Theme: “New Beginnings: Some doors close. Others creak open”
New Beginnings aligns with the arrival of spring in Argentina to explore stories of transformation—moments when something changes, starts over, or quietly takes a new shape.

We’ll read about characters in transition: after a breakup, during a move, through an unexpected encounter, or following a sudden inner shift. These stories reveal that beginnings often arrive disguised—as endings, as mistakes, or as small but significant turning points.

Possible Discussion Themes:

  • The many forms a “new beginning” can take
  • How characters face—or resist—change
  • Letting go of the past vs. carrying it with us
  • Emotional readiness vs. external reality
  • Surprise, discomfort, and transformation
  • Language & Learning Focus:
  • Talking about life transitions and turning point
  • Practicing emotional vocabulary and speculative language
  • Sharing personal experiences of change
  • Analyzing tone, symbolism, and subtle emotional cues
  • Exploring cultural perspectives on starting over

All course materials will be shared online before the course begins, so you’ll have everything you need to get started.
