Velázquez and Goya as Court Painters

As court painters, these two Spanish Masters gained rare access to the private, intimate lives of royal families. Yet, despite living and working inside these exclusive spaces, both maintained the critical, observant gaze of an outsider. In our ICANA session, we’ll analyze how Velázquez and Goya navigated power, privacy, and status, silently questioning who truly belongs in those halls of power and who remains an observer on the sidelines.
